Highlight reels
What it is
A highlight reel is a short video made in the app from clips you record or pick from your phone. You put the clips in order, trim them, and the app adds your name and a Next Athletix end card. Then you save the finished video to your Photos or share it. The whole thing happens on your phone.
How to use it
- On Home, find the Highlight reel card. Tap Record to film a clip, or Upload to pick videos and photos. You can also open My reels and tap New reel.
- The editor opens with your clips on a timeline. Tap a clip to work on it. Drag its handles to trim it, and hold and drag to change the order.
- Use the Edit tab to split a clip at the white line, duplicate it, delete it, replace it, move it left or right, fit or fill the screen, rotate it, flip it, or mute it. Undo and Redo are at the top.
- Use the Canvas tab to choose the shape (portrait for TikTok and Reels, landscape for YouTube, or square) and to type an optional title. The title shows over the first clip.
- Use the Audio tab to change a clip's volume or mute it.
- Tap Export. Keep the screen open while your reel is made, which can take a minute or two. You can cancel and nothing is saved.
- When it is ready, watch it, then tap Save to Photos or Share. Make another, go back to My reels, or delete it from here.
- Your work is saved as you go. Come back to My reels later and tap Continue editing on a draft.
Rules and limits
- A reel starts with up to 12 clips. Splitting and duplicating can take it to 40 pieces.
- The clips you add can add up to about 10 minutes of footage, and the finished reel can be at most 10 minutes. A clip you record can be up to 60 seconds. A single video over 2.5 GB is refused.
- A photo becomes a 3 second clip. Drag its handles to make it longer or shorter.
- A long clip starts trimmed to its first 15 seconds. A piece must be at least a tenth of a second long, and the trim handles will not go below half a second.
- The title can be up to 40 characters.
- Every reel gets a 3 second Next Athletix end card and a bottom bar with your name. You cannot remove either. If your name is missing from your profile, or the app cannot load it, the reel will not export.
- The end card shows a link to your public page only when your page is public. If your page is private, or the app could not check, the link is left off, and the reel says so with a shortcut to your shareable page.
- Reels and drafts live only on your phone. Nothing is uploaded to your account or to Next Athletix. Deleting a draft or a reel removes it from the app. A copy you saved to Photos stays in Photos.
- Saving to Photos asks only for permission to add. The app does not read your photo library.
- Highlight reels are in the mobile app only.
Edge cases
- If a file is stored in iCloud, open it in Photos first so it downloads, then add it.
- If your phone is out of space, adding a clip or exporting can fail. Free some space and try again.
- A reel made with a newer version of the app opens read-only in an older one. Update the app to edit it.
- Some edits (sound, rotate, flip, fill) need the newest version of the app to export. If yours is older, update or undo those edits.
- Leaving the export screen while it is working cancels it.
