Game lessons

What it is

Lessons teach the thinking side of the game: reading a situation, knowing where the play goes, deciding fast. Each lesson sets up a scenario, often with a field diagram, and then lists the key decision points to think through. Your coach can also send you a lesson with a note and a due date.

How to use it

  1. On the web, open Learn, then Lessons. Lessons are grouped by topic, and each topic shows how many you have read.
  2. Tap a lesson to open it. You read the scenario, look at the field diagram if there is one, and work through the key decision points.
  3. Lessons your coach sent are marked From your coach, with the due date if they set one. Their note shows when you open the lesson.
  4. In the mobile app, the Lessons list shows the lessons your coach has sent you. Each one has the scenario, the diagram, the questions to think about and the coach's note. Home shows the ones you have not opened yet first, with a link to see them all.

Rules and limits

  • The web list shows the lessons for your sport. A lesson a coach wrote themselves only appears for the athletes it was sent to.
  • Opening a lesson marks it read. The first time you open it is the one that is kept, so a lesson stays read.
  • Read lessons feed the Lessons read count on your dashboard and Progress page, and your coach can see whether you have opened what they sent.
  • Reading a lesson does not check you in for the day or add to your streak.
  • Coaches and parents can read lessons too, but nothing is tracked for them. A coach can make an editable copy of a house lesson.
  • If a coach takes a lesson back to a draft after sending it, it disappears from your list.

Edge cases

  • The mobile list is only what your coach sent. If your coach has sent nothing, it is empty even though the web shows a full library.
  • Older lessons may show a still picture of the field instead of the newer diagram.
  • A lesson that is no longer published, or one that does not exist, shows a not-found page.
