Notifications and email reminders

What it is

Next Athletix tells you what needs your attention in three ways: push notifications on your phone, a few emails, and a count of unread messages on the Messages tab. Most of it is automatic. You can turn off the optional parts.

How to use it

  1. Turn on push notifications. In the mobile app, open Profile, then Notifications, and tap Turn on notifications. Allow them when your phone asks. If you said no before, the same button opens your phone's Settings so you can switch them on.
  2. Know what you will get. Push notifications cover new messages (between a coach and an athlete, and between a parent and a coach), a new workout from a coach, a coach's reaction or hype note on a check-in, and opt-in alerts such as a coach or parent being told a workout was finished. Parents are also told when an outside coach messages their athlete.
  3. Mute what you do not want. In the mobile app you can mute Coach alerts with the switch in Profile. Families can turn off College interest alerts (a college coach viewed or starred your athlete) from the switch on the College messages page. Parents can turn off the weekly email from Account settings, or from the unsubscribe link in the email.
  4. Weekly progress email (parents). Every Sunday evening you get one email covering each athlete's sessions, streak, anything new on their profile, and coach and college activity.
  5. Follow-up reminders (Training + Recruiting plan). On the email log, pick a date to be reminded to follow up with a college coach you emailed. A reminder email arrives on that day. You can change the date or remove it.
  6. Unread badge. The Messages tab shows how many messages are waiting across coach chats, family chats and college coach chats.

Rules and limits

  • Lock screen notifications never show what a message says. They show only who it is from and "New message". A new workout shows the workout's title.
  • Notifications go only to the other person in a conversation, plus linked parents on an outside coach's chat.
  • Push notifications come only through the mobile app. The website does not send browser notifications.
  • Up to 10 phones can be registered to one account. Registering an 11th removes the oldest.
  • Follow-up reminders need the Training + Recruiting plan.
  • The weekly email goes to parents only. Athletes and coaches do not get it.
  • Scouts (college coaches) get one daily email, only on days when a player they starred changed. It can be turned off from their favorites page.

Edge cases

  • If a push stops arriving, open Profile, then Notifications. It shows whether permission is on and whether this phone is registered, and the last error if there was one.
  • Signing in on a phone with a different account moves that phone's notifications to the new account.
  • Switching the weekly email off from the email link does not need a password. Opening the link only shows a confirm button; nothing is switched off until you press it.
  • A reminder date must be in the future. Setting a new date on the same email replaces the old one.
