Family requests and parent invites

What it is

Some things a young athlete cannot do alone. They ask, and a linked parent or guardian answers. This page covers how an athlete asks, how a teen connects a parent, and what a parent can say yes or no to.

How to use it

If you are the athlete (under 18)

  1. Open the Parent approval section in the app (Profile, then your shareable page). Tap "Ask my parent to approve" to request that your public page go live. Your page stays private until a parent says yes.
  2. An athlete on a child account can also ask a parent to pay for a plan, and can share a checklist item with a parent for their information.
  3. If no parent is linked yet and you are 13 to 17, tap "Invite your parent". Send an email, send a text, or show a QR code. Your parent opens the link, makes a parent account and ticks the box saying they are your parent or guardian.
  4. If you used a link or QR code instead of an email, the app shows you who accepted. Tap "Yes, that's my parent" only if you know them. You can cancel an open invite at any time.
  5. After you ask, the app shows whether your parent is still deciding, approved it, or said not yet. You can ask again after a decline.

If you are the parent

  1. Open your dashboard. Anything waiting on you appears at the top, and the sidebar shows a count.
  2. For a page request, choose Approve or Decline. For an upgrade request, review the plan and pay, or say not now. For a shared checklist item, choose Acknowledge.
  3. A page request also arrives by email with Approve and Decline buttons. The link opens a confirmation page, and nothing happens until you press a button. It works for 14 days.
  4. If your athlete invited you, open their link. Sign in or create a parent account, tick the guardian box, and accept.

Rules and limits

  • A minor's page can only go public when a parent approves. The athlete cannot do it themselves, and an approval is not possible until the parent's consent is on file.
  • Only a parent can answer a request. Any one of an athlete's linked parents can answer; the first answer counts and the request closes for everyone.
  • Only athletes aged 13 to 17 can invite a parent. Athletes under 13 need a parent to create their account for them, and adults do not need a parent.
  • An athlete can have one open page request at a time.
  • Invites expire after 14 days and work once. An athlete can have up to 10 open invites. Inviting the same email again replaces the earlier invite.
  • Asking is limited to 10 requests an hour, and invites to 20 an hour.
  • An email invite only works for the account that uses the same email address the invite was sent to. A share link or QR code never connects anyone until the athlete confirms them.
  • A parent cannot "approve" an upgrade request; paying is the approval. They can only decline it.

Edge cases

  • If an invite link no longer works (used, expired, cancelled or mistyped), the page gives one general message. Ask the athlete for a new invite.
  • If a parent opens an email invite while signed in to a different account, they are told it was sent to another address and need to sign in with the right one.
  • Someone who is not a parent account cannot accept a parent invite. They need to sign out and create a parent account.
  • A request answered by another parent, or already handled, tells you it was already handled.
  • Opening an invite page or an emailed approval link never changes anything by itself. A button press is always needed.
