Parental consent and child safety

What it is

Next Athletix is built so a parent stays in charge of a young athlete's account. Players under 13 cannot sign themselves up: a parent creates the account and confirms consent. Between 13 and 17, a parent still has to approve before the athlete's page is public. This page explains how that works.

How to use it

  1. Sign up as a parent and choose Add an athlete.
  2. Enter your child's name, age (5 to 17), a username and a password, and tick the consent box. Your child signs in with that username. No email address is needed for them.
  3. If your child is under 13, check your own email. We send you a verification link. Open it within 48 hours. The page tells you when your consent is confirmed.
  4. If your child is 13 to 17, ticking the box when you create the account is enough. No email step.
  5. Once consent is on file you can approve their public page, change who can see it, and manage their coach connections from your dashboard. See the parent dashboard article for the day-to-day view.
  6. If your teen made their own account at 13 or older, they can invite you from the app. You accept with the "I'm their parent or legal guardian" box. That box is your consent.

Rules and limits

  • Children under 13 cannot create their own account. A parent creates it.
  • For an under 13 athlete, consent is not on file until the parent opens the emailed link. Until then a parent cannot publish or change the sharing of that athlete's page.
  • An athlete under 18 cannot make their own page public. A parent approves it, and can take it back at any time.
  • A child cannot start billing. They can ask a parent, who decides and pays.
  • A child account cannot delete itself. Only a parent can delete it. A parent account with athletes linked cannot be deleted until each athlete's account is deleted first, so no child is left without a parent.
  • A child's team and private coach connections (joining or leaving a team, adding or removing a coach) go to a parent to approve. A coach who joins a team the child is already on can be accepted automatically or held for approval, as set on the parent's account.
  • A child account has no email address and signs in with the username the parent chose.
  • The verification link works once and expires after 48 hours.

Edge cases

  • If the verification link has expired or was already used, the page says so. Contact support@nextathletix.com for a fresh link.
  • Opening the link signs nobody in. Anyone holding the link can complete the verification, so keep the email private.
  • Several parents can be linked to one child. Consent on file for any of them satisfies the check for that child.
  • A child under 13 can use their login before the parent confirms. Only publishing and sharing are held back until consent is on file.
  • Deleting an account is permanent. Any paid subscription is cancelled first, and if that cancellation fails nothing is deleted.
